The one-thousand-year-old town became a market municipality in 1983. Archeological findings prove that already Illyrians, Celts and Romans lived here. The mild and pleasant climate of the place is due to the moderate altitude of the town.
A dense network of cycling trails, the nearby GCC Gai-Reiting golf course (12 minutes by car), and the gliding field in Timmerdorf (5 km from St. Michael) are ideal for adventurous holidays for the whole family. Located at the junction of A9 and S6 it can be easily reached from all parts of the country. With its friendly guesthouses it is an ideal place for meetings and conferences.
