Großkrut, which was first mentioned in the year 1055, is situated in the eastern Weinviertel of Lower Austria.

This market municipality comprises the communities Althöflein, Harrersdorf and Ginzersdorf.
The landscape is characterised by agriculture and viticulture.
The highest elevation is the Wartberg hill with 235 m.
